Why $1?
So how did we figure a buck a day can provide water for an entire village?
An average deep well in East Africa can provide water for about 2,000 people. It costs about $14,000 to construct the well and install a manual pump. This pump will last an average of 7 years, with minor maintenance.
Thus, the cost for this well, per person, is: $14,000 ÷ 2,000 ÷ 7 = $1.00.
That's one dollar for one person to have clean water for one year.
If just one dollar can give one person clean water for one year, think how much clean water you could provide by saving a buck a day!
